Bruce on Bade Boomer
Bade Boomer leaving Snook Bight
Bade Boomer departed Snook Bight at high tide for their trip to the Keys. We’ll catch up with them in a couple of weeks. For now, we got some things done around the boat, bought some groceries, and spent a quiet night on the boat with Bayfront Bistro leftovers for dinner.

Lunch on glider swings on the rooftop restaurant

Lookin' good Chris
Swashbuckler Bruce
What's the first letter of a pirate's alphabet? ...rrrrrrrr
We caught the trolley with Bruce and Chris and headed downtown for lunch. We had talked to Susie and Don Banks and Suzanne and Jim Humphrey, friends from home, who are vacationing in Fort Myers. We planned to meet them at Lani Kai, a hotel with a restaurant on the top. It was fun to see more familiar faces from home!
After lunch, we walked around downtown with Chris and Bruce, shopped, and eventually took the trolley back to Snook Bight. Again we stopped at Bayfront Bistro for a delicious dinner.

Sand castle
Beach dolphins
We attended the 11:15 service at St Peter Lutheran Church and then walked back to the boat for lunch on board. About 3:00 Chris and Bruce arrived on Bade Boomer. It was great to see them again! It seems like a long time since Tarpon Springs.
The four of us walked the beach to Junkanoos restaurant where we watched the Bears/Packers game. The walk back along the beach at night was incredibly beautiful with lots of stars in the sky and the steady crash of waves on the sand. We stopped at Bayfront Bistro for a nightcap and a steak appetizer that was melt-in-our-mouths tender and delicious!

Happy 2011!
What a beautiful day! Jim cleaned the dingy while I took a walk on the beach. (There’s that picky captain cleaning his boat again!) The beach was wonderful, and there were a lot of people enjoying the the sunny, 75 degree day.
In the late afternoon, Diann and Tom picked us up, and we went back to their condo to enjoy leftover pasta for dinner. (The recipe serves 12, and fortunately the 4 of us did not eat all of it yesterday!) We watched the Rose Bowl, but the Big 10 did not have a good day in any of their bowl games.

Diann and Tom
New Year's Eve
New Year's Eve sunset from Tom and Diann's condo
Tom and Diann Lanum, friends from home, arrived in Fort Myers Beach today. They have rented a condo for a month. We saw them here last year when we were on vacation and they were cruising “The Great Loop”. They completed the loop last fall, and have given us invaluable advice about our travels ahead. It was great to see them!
Since it was New Year’s Eve, we decided to avoid the restaurant crowds. We bought groceries at Publix and went to Tom and Diann’s condo where we enjoyed a beautiful sunset and a delicious pasta dinner. Back at the boat we watched fireworks on Fort Myers Beach and Fort Myers. What a great New Year!

Looking north from the pier
The beach at sunset
We got some things done around the boat and then about 3:00 we walked to the main street to catch the trolley to go downtown. Steve Cotton and the Lamberts were at Nemos, so we planned to meet them. However, the trolley was late and the holiday traffic was so heavy that we didn’t get to Nemos until 4:20. We were joined by Dave Vanderbleek and Mary, and we all decided to go to dinner at Junkanoos. The pizza was great and Dave picked up the tab for everyone. Thanks, Dave!
