Our luck with a calm Lake Michigan ran out, and we battled wind and 3-4 foot waves for 7 hours on our run to Grand Haven. The Grand Haven Municipal Marina is close to the downtown area, but it is not a very protected harbor in west winds.
We arrived about 3:00 and walked downtown to check out the restaurants for dinner. We had a cocktail at Porto Bello with Linda, Jeff, and Carlton, but we all decided on dinner at Kirby Grill. It turned out to be a good choice. The food was excellent.
We got back to the boats just in time to watch the nightly musical fountain performance. The free 20 minute show is provided by the city of Grand Haven and attracts hundreds of people every evening. The water fountains across the river from the municipal marina process over 90,000 gallons of water in a synchronized display of water, lights, and music. It is the world’s largest musical fountain, and it’s a great way to end each day.
Monday was a beautiful day, so we ran a lot of errands and restocked the boat. On Tuesday the winds again picked up, and the boats were rocking. We had 10 lines on Dream Catcher and we were still moving. There was too much motion for dinner on board, so we went back to Porto Bello with Linda, Jeff, and Carlton for a delicious pasta dinner.
Becky had not been feeling good, so on Wednesday Carlton took her to the emergency room. The doctors diagnosed her with dehydration and admitted her to the hospital where she underwent further tests. All of us are anxious for her fast and complete recovery.
The winds remained strong on Thursday so we remained at Grand Haven for another day.
